STORY BEHIND YOUR PSEUDO:

MadC – the C is for my first name (Claudia), I was given the “mad” a long time ago by my friends, because I used to be a little hyper active.

FIRST AND RECENT GRAFFITI EXPERIENCES:

I read the book “Graffiti Art Germany” and went to buy my first cans the very next day and started painting. Since then, I have attended festivals in Germany, Europe and worldwide since 2001 and some were as far away as Hawaii, Russia or Colombia.

More recently, I just finished the 500 Wall, a 550sqm big wall that I painted all by myself in only 7 days. Future projects involve a collaboration with several artists in Hong Kong, a solo show next year in Switzerland and a trip to South Africa.

INFLUENCES AND INSPIRATION:

I am inspired by my travels, by Animation and movies, by impressionist and expressionist artist and several contemporary artists. For the graffiti writing part Dare, Seen and Amok were an influence for me.

WHAT IS GRAFFITI ALL ABOUT TO YOU?

This has changed a lot over time. Right now graffiti is the ultimate creative freedom for me. I can paint anything in any size, canvas or wall, and turn a part of the city into a big piece of art. The urban environment is like a creative playground.

PERCEPTION OF THE CURRENT GRAFFITI SCENE IN YOUR COUNTRY:

It is very big and hard to keep up to date with what is going on. The German graffiti artists are known for their clean way of painting and their aiming for perfectionism.

3 WORDS THAT WOULD BEST DEFINE YOUR STYLE:

Energetic, colorful, clean.

CHARACTERISTICS THAT SET YOU APART IN THE GRAFFITI SCENE:

I use a wide range of imagery, from characters to abstract pieces. I paint large scale works all by myself and use a lot of transparencies. Also I try to work with the architecture and texture rather than adding a piece like a sticker to any given surface.

FAVORITE SPOTS TO PAINT GRAFFITI:

Any place that hasn’t been touch by (graffiti) art, countries that are not typically known for a graffiti culture, abandoned factories or interesting architecture

WHAT DOES TAHITI REPRESENT TO YOU?

I connect it with bright colors, nature, green mountains, inspiration for artists (such as Gauguin) and a relaxed way of living. I’m looking forward to meet the people and experience a new part of this wonderful planet.
